Pets and your pool
Taking care of your pool when you have pets involves a few considerations. Let’s dive into it:
Supervision is Key:
Just like with children, always supervise your pets around the pool. Even small backyard pools require attention.
Not all dogs are good swimmers, and some may struggle to get out if they accidentally fall in.
If you have an older pet, make sure there’s an easy way for your furry friend to get out like a pet-safe ladder
Water Safety:
A properly maintained swimming pool is generally safe for dogs.
Pool water (whether chlorine or saltwater) is not harmful under most circumstances.
However, dogs may ingest pool water while swimming. Excessive consumption can lead to upset stomach, vomiting, and even water intoxication.
Rinse your dog’s coat after swimming to remove any pool chemicals and check for skin issues1.
Maintenance:
Dogs introduce more debris into the pool than humans. Loose hairs, dirt, pollen, skin oils and even fecal matter can affect the filtration system and chemical balance.
If there’s been a pet accident leaving fecal matter in your pool, contact All Valley Pools so we can have a technician out to sanitize the water
Regularly clean the pool filter and skim the surface to remove pet hair and debris.
Your All Valley Pool team will make sure chemicals are balanced
Remember, while it’s okay for dogs to swim, always prioritize their safety and maintain your pool accordingly.
